1.Ueno Zoo
The first zoo in Japan, opened in 1882, has 140000 sq meters of areas and 500 sorts of animals.
Separated into East zone with wild animals, birds or "giant panda" and West zone with herbivores, you can enjoy all day seeing and experiencing animals' life
2.Ameyoko
A short form of "Ameya-yokocho(candy street)," stretches from JR Okachimachi sta. to Ueno sta along with the overhead railroad lines. Foods, clothes, sundry goods, jewelry and cosmetics are available here, shout of barkers are always vibrating in the street.
3.Tokyo National Museum
The first established museum in Japan in 1872, which collects and displays art works, historical documents, and archeological artifacts from Japan and Eastern countries. Has five exhibition halls in total.
4.Sensouji temple
The oldest temple in Tokyo, famous for its remaining Shitamachi (downtown) atmosphere. At the gate to precinct, "kaminarimon," has a huge red lantern hung dynamically, statues of the gods of wind thunder are standing on both sides. Shopping arcade called "Nakamise" is also enjoyable.
5.Sumida River & Suijo-bus
Enjoy your cruise time on Sumida river! From Asakusa, ships are leaving for Hinode-sanbashi (near Hamamatsucho)once or twice in every hour, or to Odaiba 4 times a day.
6.Kappabashi Street
Shopping district which deals in utensils, samples of food, or clothes for cooking etc. And also has many souvenior shops for tourists.
7.Iriya Kishibojin temple
Established in 1659, the god of easy birth and child raising is enshrined.

8.Shitamachi Museum
Here you can experience the daily lives of ordinary people in old Edo (now Tokyo) by seeing recreated rows of houses or streets, household items, toys or things related to traditional events.
9.Otori Shinto Shrine
Enshrines Ameno-Hiwashino-Mikoto and Yamato-Takeruno-Mikoto. It is believed that the god of this shrine has a power which brings you luck, prosperity of business, childraising, and success of career. The event of 'bean-throwing' is popular among local people and visitors also.
10.Kan'eiji Temple
Its main building is registered as the important cultural property. In days past, it has a huge area of Ueno park as its territory. It was Tokugawas' family temple, 6 generals of 15 from Tokugawa are sleeping here.
A.Iriya Asagao Festival
Originated due to the reputation of a gardener who cultivated Japanese morning glories in the Iriya area during the early Meiji era. Although the festival was halted for a time in the Taisho period it resumed in 1950 and now attracts many people to its huge numbers of beautiful bright blooms every summer.
B.Sanja Festival
Held on the 3rd Sat/Sun in May.
Asakusa shrine enshrines 3 saints who relates of the origin of Sensouji temple as 3 gods. On Sanja Matsuri people thanks those gods, and on the last day of Matsuri, people carry portable shrines and march in the city.
C.Hoozuki Ichi
Held on Sep. 9th, 10th at Sensouji temple. Inside the Sensouji precincts places about 250 of booth which sells Hoozuki (Chinese lantern).
The day of Hoozuki ichi is called 'Shiman-rokusen-nichi (46000th day)', it is said that if you visit the temple on the day you can get 46000days'(120 years') worth of the grace from the god.
D.Hagoita Ichi
Held on 17th to 19th Nov. at Sensouji temple.
The origin of Hagoita-ichi is from custom that think the plate of gagoita game as the 'plate that repel evels' and hopes the health growth of girls
(Hagoita is the game with 2 persons holding plates like rackets and play like badminton)
E.Tori no Ichi
Held on the day of the Cock (one of the twelve sign of Chinese zodiac) on November at Otori jinja shrine (2 or 3 times every year). Many shops sell Kumade, the colorful article that brings you a good luck.
